It's great that electronic lock systems allow you to set up clearance for each individual employee. Since I manage a customer service call center, there are employees who are assigned to work at different times throughout the day, including night shifts. It would be so helpful if we could customize each employee's access to the building.

I thought it was cool when you mentioned that an electric lock system negates the need for having keys and locks changed. I've been researching different types of security systems that I could install in my home. I'll have to take a look and see if I can get a keyless entry function for my doors.

I work at a daycare center and I was talking to my boss about getting electronic locking systems for our doors. We're very small and local and operate out of a two-floor home that has been altered into a daycare center, so our security amounts to a locked gate and locks on the doors, but I think it would be easier for parents and personnel if we could give parents limited access through a database like you say, and then give full access to the teachers and employees. I think you make a lot of good points about the convenience and reduced risk of losing keys, so I'll pass this info on to my boss and see if this convinces her to upgrade.

Thanks for the tips on the benefits of an electronic door lock system because it provides a programmable security clearance, automatic door lock/ unlocks scheduling and centralized management. My boss is considering on replacing the traditional mechanical door locks with an electronic one at work. Thanks for mentioning that access controlled doors, used to secure areas, allow only authorized personnel to enter into secure areas. Thanks for the advice!

To some degree, I agree with the notion that electronic door lock systems trump traditional mechanical door locks. However, I think it is somewhat risky to fully buy into the belief that they are better without assessing their flaws.

Electronic door locks that are part of an Access control system will definitely reduce the number of lockouts and lost key scenarios that people have to deal with. Furthermore, using these types of locks vastly elevates your key control.

But what about the potential dangers these locks bring?

I see so many people in the industry skirt around this topic rather than facing it head-on. There are some tough questions that need to be answered before the general populace is made to wholly buy into electronic door lock systems.

For instance, what happens to your entire ACS system when power is lost? Also, by removing mechanical door locks, you also remove the necessity for physical access in order to override the lock. Doesn't this end up leaving you more vulnerable and open to remote access attacks?

Like I said, I agree with parts of the point you made, but I would have loved to see the flaws of this system explored as well. I believe this would give the reader a more balanced view of electronic door locks.

These are the new trend like now an electronic door system. I usually find this over hotels and offices but after I went to my friend’s house I was shock seeing an electronic door. He was upgrading his house security and this is part of them. It was too cool and when he says it is not much of investment I want to have one too.

It's really interesting that with electric locks, you can set them up to lock and unlock on a schedule. I have been looking for a lock to put on my house actually, and I was wondering what type to get. I can see how it would be nice to get an electric lock that automatically locks at night, so I don't have to get out of bed to go lock the door.
